JDRF

As you all should know, our National Philanthropy is JDRF. But what a lot of people don’t know is WHAT exactly JDRF and diabetes is. JDRF is the leading global organization funding Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) research. Currently, JDRF sponsors $530 million in scientific research in 17 countries. The organization’s ultimate goal is to help find a cure to T1D. In the meantime, though, JDRF also supports research that develops better treatments for individuals with T1D to ensure they live healthier lives.

Symptoms of T1D include: extreme thirst, frequent urination, sudden vision change, sugar in urine, fruity, sweet, or wine-like odor on breath, increased appetite, sudden weight loss, drowsiness, heavy, labored breathing, and stupor or unconsciousness.

–knowing the symptoms could help you save someone’s life!

Individuals with diabetes either have to take insulin shots multiple times a day or have a pump that inserts insulin in their body before they eat. While careful monitoring of blood sugar levels, regular exercise, and sticking to a specific diet can help individuals with T1D gain a tight control on their blood sugar levels, there are factors that can affect this control. These include stress, hormone changes, growth, and illness. Individuals with T1D must pay close attention to their bodies, their meals, and their activities to help maintain stable blood sugar levels.

We support JDRF because we believe they are doing great things to work toward their ultimate goal of finding a cure! I encourage you and your chapters to visit jdrf.org if you are interested in more information on JDRF facts, life with diabetes, etc. It is a great resource!

The more we fundraise for JDRF, the closer they can get to finding a cure!!
